Pilgrims of Grabarka

Grabarka, first mentioned in 1710, is the holiest location in Polish Orthodoxy. The Holy Mount of Grabarka has been a center for pilgrimage for Orthodox Christians from Poland and other countries since the 18th century.
Legend has it that during an outbreak of cholera in the region, a man had a revelation from God that the disease would go away if the believers make wooden crosses and climb the mountain praying and drinking water from spring on the top. The most prominent and well-known feature of Grabarka is the forest of crosses surrounding the Church, all brought to the Mount by pilgrims.By 300-year tradition,  Orthodox people from Poland and across the world are coming  to the Holy Mountain each year for the feast of the Assumption.
Pilgrims are praying not only for themselves, but also for their families, children, for Motherland, and entire world.

In 2012 I was walking with large group of pilgrims from Bialystok, documenting  the event not only with my DSLR camera but also with iPhone 3S as an experimental, side project.
